What Should I Wear During A Massage?

Posted by Team Bella in

Massages should be relaxing and therapeutic, but if you go into the spa worrying about what to wear – or not wear – you miss out on a little of that bliss.

Body wraps, massages and other full-body treatments mean getting out of your street clothes and into a robe, but what do you wear under that? Our Bella Santé spa experts say the best option is nothing. However, we understand that you may not be comfortable going completely bare! You can leave on your underwear, and you’ll still get the full benefits of the treatment. You can even bring your own bathing suit. Choose a roomy one; you don't want restrictive clothing during a massage.

If you do go bare, just know that you won't feel exposed. Spa therapists learn how to drape with towels and sheets as part of their professional training. Just as in your doctor's office, you'll have the massage room to yourself to change and prepare for the session, so even if you're shy, you have plenty of privacy. Massage therapists look forward to helping their clients loosen up and letting go of tension, and being judgmental is at odds with that goal.

Your spa therapist will give you some direction about whether you should remove your clothing above the waist for a facial or disrobe completely for a massage. Remember, massage therapists work with people of all shapes and sizes; they aren't there to judge you but to put you at ease. Bare is best, but ultimately, you decide what's comfortable for you.
