In The News: Manicurists Routinely Underpaid and Exploited

Earlier this month, the New York Times published a series of articles that exposed the mistreatment and exploitation of nail care workers at bargain salons: The Price of Nice Nails. The story moved Mayor De Blasio to action and he immediately announced the investigation of the “deplorable conditions” of nail care workers at discount nail shops. On Monday, Governor Cuomo introduced legislation that offers strong measures to improve conditions of employees in the nail care industry. Words cannot express how much we at Bella Santé applaud and support the long overdue exposure of the plight of workers in this vulnerable community.

We have been following this story just as closely as some of you. We want to assure you that since the opening of our doors over 15 years ago, our commitment to the welfare of our staff has been a top priority. We may not offer the least expensive manicure, but rest assured that while we are taking the very best CARE of you, we are also taking the very best care of our team members. We have ALWAYS offered our staff full benefits in the form of vacation pay, sick pay, health insurance, dental insurance, and a 401k plan, and we will continue to do so.
