7 Secret Weapons For Healthy Skin

If you want to keep skin healthy you need to nourish it and establish good habits. Returning to our blog this week, guest blogger Nicole Roketenetz, Bella Santé’s Esthetic Director and a Medical Aesthetician, shares her skin care secret weapons to help keep your skin looking and feeling its very best.

Drink Water. We Mean It.

A simple way to keep your skin hydrated is to make sure that you drink approximately 64 ounces of water every day. In addition to being good for your overall health, adequate water consumptions prevents your skin from becoming overly dry and flaky.

Sleep Is Important to Skin Health

When you are chronically deprived of sleep, it causes your body to produce excess amounts of cortisol, the hormone associated with stress. Too much cortisol in your blood stream can also cause inflammation, especially in the face. This can leave your skin looking saggy and unhealthy, regardless of your age. We know you have a lot to do and a lot on your mind, but if you want to maintain healthy skin and a youthful appearance, make a commitment to getting at least seven hours of sleep every night.

A Good Quality Skin Moisturizer Makes A Difference

Unfortunately, staying hydrated with water and getting your beauty rest isn’t enough. Add a skin moisturizer to your everyday beauty routine. A good quality moisturizer is the first line of defense against aging. Properly hydrated skin will actually function better and help you look and feel your best.

Consider a Bi-Weekly Skin Retinol for Acne or Wrinkles

Include retinol to your skin care regimen two to three times per week. It helps to unclog pores and clear oil from the skin better than most commercial products if you’re suffering from acne, and it helps fight the effects of aging. It encourages the formation of new collagen while making existing skin cells more elastic at the same time.

Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen

Wear it every day. 90% of visible aging is caused by sun exposure and sun damage is cumulative. We recommend a physical sunblock.

Eat Well And Exercise

Among the many, many reasons to maintain a healthier lifestyle is that decreases inflammation and stress in the body. This brings us back to the cortisol in your body and how it negatively affects the skin.

Regular Facials

Getting on a regular schedule for professional facials is essential to maintaining good skin health. It also makes it easier to address any skincare issues. In general we recommend scheduling a facial every three to four weeks. Speak to your esthetician to create a customized plan that works best for you.
