What We Tell Our Friends: 4 Skin Care Tips That Work

Fresh-faced woman with smooth skin, minimal routine

One of our team members at Bella Santé got stopped recently with a compliment: glowing skin, what’s the secret? She didn’t launch into a 10 step skin care routine. Instead, she listed a few habits she sticks to: simple changes that make a difference.

1. Use a toner (don’t skip it)

Toners don’t always get the spotlight, but they’re worth keeping in your skincare routine. A good toner clears any leftover residue after cleansing, balances your skin’s pH, and helps your next products sink in better.

Look for an alcohol-free toner that fits your skin type. If your skin’s feeling tight or dry, go for something hydrating. If you’re prone to breakouts, try one that gently clarifies.

2. Pull your hair back before bed

This one’s easy to overlook. Your hair picks up oil, sweat, and product during the day—and if it ends up on your face while you sleep, so does everything it’s carrying.

After you wash your face at night, pull your hair back. Even a loose clip will help prevent clogged pores and irritation while you sleep.

3. Change your pillowcase regularly

If you’re breaking out and can’t figure out why, check your pillowcase. It collects oil, dead skin, and bacteria fast—especially if you sleep with your hair down.

We recommend changing it every few nights (more often if you’re dealing with breakouts). It’s a small step, but it can help keep your skin clearer and calmer.

4. Stop washing your face with hot water

Hot water might feel relaxing, but it can strip your skin’s natural oils and leave it dehydrated. If your skin feels tight or dry after cleansing, this might be why.

Stick to lukewarm or cool water when you wash your face, especially if your skin is sensitive or you use exfoliants or retinol. It’s better for your barrier and helps keep things balanced.

Wrap-Up

Small habits add up. These skin care tips fit easily into any routine and help create the kind of consistency your skin responds to calm, clear, and just a little more consistent.
